Surface Pro vs. Surface RT

Microsoft launched two versions of the Surface Tablet PC, Surface RT running Windows RT and Surface Pro running Windows 8 . Here we provide the specifications  comparison of the two versions of the Surface.


Surface RT: Windows RT (32-bit)

Surface Pro: Windows 8 Pro (64-bit)

Software Compatibility

Surface RT: Metro style applications, limited desktop software (for example: Office RT);

Surface Pro: Metro style applications, traditional desktop software.

Size and weight

Surface RT: 10.81 x 6.77 x 0.37 inches, 1.5 pounds;

Surface Pro: 10.81 x 6.81 x 0.53 inches, 2 lbs.

Surface Pro to the weight and thickness of the expense in exchange for the compatibility of the Intel chipset. Although more heavy Surface Pro version, but it will provide better functionality.

Storage space

Surface RT: 32 GB / 64 GB eMMC standard hard disk;

Surface Pro: 64 GB / 128 GB ((It is not clear whether Surface Pro the eMMC standard hard drive or SSD Solid State Disk).

Surface RT and Surface Pro is equipped with Micro-SDXC card slot, it is learned, Surface RT can support up to 64GB of storage space.


Surface RT: 10.6-inch the ClearType display screen resolution of 1366 x 768p support 5-point touch;

The Surface Pro: 10.6-inch ClearType display resolution of 1920 x 1080p support 10-point touch.


Surface RT: support stylus (not included);

The Surface Pro: Built-in stylus.


Surface RT: ARM architecture NVIDIA Tegra T30 quad-core processor;

Surface Pro: third-generation Intel Core i5 “Ivy Bridge” processor, Intel HD 4000 graphics.


Surface RT: 2 GB;

Surface Pro: 4 GB.

Surface RT: 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0;

Surface Pro: 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

Battery capacity

Surface RT: 31.5 Wh;

Surface Pro: 42 Wh.

Microsoft claims Surface RT the continuing flight time up to 8 hours, not yet disclosed Surface Pro sustained flight time, sources said, is expected to Microsoft Surface Pro continued flight time is only 4-5 hours. If the news is true, then, in this regard, Microsoft some fail.

Operating power

Surface RT: 24 W;

Surface Pro: 48 W (USB 3.0 interface provides 5W output power).

Missing key features
Surface RT has been scheduled to accept, but there are some important function has not been referred to Microsoft:

1) Cellular mobile

Windows 8 and Windows RT operating system, the Windows family into Cellular mobile Internet era, and now smartphone and tablet devices have support for Cellular Network and the Surface Quedui Cellular network makes no mention was very serious doubts. Although Windows RT and Windows 8 operating system supports USB wireless card, but only a USB interface is not it?

2) GPS

Publicity Surface, Microsoft does not provide GPS functionality of the Surface. Surface RT does not have GPS too disappointing.

3) NFC

Since since Microsoft first launched Windows 8 has been talking about NFC near field communication functionality, Surface RT, however there was no mention of this feature.
